The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established in 2003 by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 101 note). DHS is administered under the supervision and direction of the Secretary of Homeland Security and works to: 1) prevent terrorism and enhance security, 2) secure and manage U.S. borders, 3) enforce and administer U.S. immigration laws, 4) safeguard and secure cyberspace and 5) ensure resilience to disasters.
